A Short History of Painting

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. Andy Warhol's art encompassed many forms of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. Andy Warhol painted several versions of Marilyn Monroe. He used different colours, sizes, and formats. Warhol was fascinated with fame for himself, but also of those that were famous. Warhol painted many other celebrities and iconic people from history. In Marilyn Monroe, Warhol found a fusion of two of his consistent themes: death and the cult of celebrity. The star died tragically in August 1962. In the following two years, Warhol made thirty silkscreen paintings of her, always using the same publicity photograph from the 1953 film Niagara. This set of ten screenprints was produced in 1967, in an edition of 250. The repeated image serves as the basis for a series of startling colour transformations. Marilyn Monroe screen print was completed in 1967 on medium screen print image: 910 x 910 mm .I like the way that Andy can take the same picture and change the colours of the image. I find his work absolutely captivating using can foods part of his artworks.

Edgar Dega's

Edgar Dega's was born in 19 July 1834 – 27 September 1917) was a French artist famous for his paintings, sculptures, print's, and drawings. He is especially identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers. He is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism , although he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist. At the beginning of his career, he wanted to be a history painter, a calling for which he was well prepared by his rigorous academic training and close study of classic art. In his early thirties, he changed course, and by bringing the traditional methods of a history painter to bear on contemporary subject matter, he became a classical painter of modern life. I really like his painting it's exquiste and captivating. It's interesting that he painted this painting while the girl's are practising their ballet dance instead of taking a photo but painting the girl's practising their ballet dance. In this beautiful painting what i think is Edgar Dega's trying show what it look's like in a girl's ballet dancers class and the way they dress.

Portrait painting

                                                     Portrait painting

We have been told to pick someone from our class to paint a portrait. I have chosen Grace from class to work on my portrait. Painting a portrait of Grace wasn't easy I had a lot of mistake and repainting the portrait. So I went on youtube watching the tutorial on how to paint a portrait learning some new skills to get that detail on the eye's and hair etc.. I also found a book at home How Frances o'farrel paint's portraits. I learn't a lot new skills from that amazing book. Working with oil paint wasn't that bad at all even though it was my first time painting a portrait I'm proud of myself finishing the portrait. I'm happy how it turned out the only thing that I would like to change is her colour make it lighter It was a bit too dark and the checks is a little bit chubby the things that I was struggling with. I would plan before i go straight to it and rushing it not thinking about the colours that I'm going to mix to paint. I enjoy painting with the oil paint it's really smooth and soft and looking tone. I would love to learn more about painting portrait and oil paint it's so interesting.

FINAL PAINTING

VOKA SPONTANREALISMUS

Voka, born 1965, lives and works in the Lower Austrian town of Puchberg am Schneeberg. He coined the term "Spontaneous Realism" as a trademark for his art. Voka defines this style as a revival of the significance of contemporary art, a valued tradition in a new era, with a new interpretation reflecting today´s spirit of the time. His distinctive style, emerging from the dynamic of the moment, enables him to strikingly capture immediate reality while the observer is able to palpably feel the imbedded movement. His ability to create one of his paintings in a short space of time and with great dynamic, he explained in a very simple way ´I have dealt with painting for a very, very long time in a very slowly and intensively way.`
The basis of his artistic creations is rooted in a decade-long altercation with the art of realism. As a youngster he was already dealing very intensely with oil-painting. Back then he would often work on a painting for several weeks. He researched the technique of the old masters and appropriated them into his own intensive self-study. It was his first contact with watercolour that made him realise that working quickly - which he was almost forced to do when working outside as the colours dry so quickly - could give his stroke more momentum and therefore enormous dynamic. With the discovery of acrylic he was able to allow his solid basic knowledge of, not only the meticulousness and `heavy`art of oil painting but also the `light`and rapid technique of watercolour painting, to flow together to discover and develop his own style of Spontaneous Realism.

Well my final painting i was wondering what i was going to paint. So I planed on painting one of my favourite artist painting of Marilyn Monroe. I started on the background with yellow and purple and red.

After I painted the background I changed my mind and thinking of another image to paint on that background. Then I searched on the internet to find a image and I have found one a picture of daft punk .
Daft Punk is an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians  Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (born 8 February 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born 3 January 1975). Daft Punk reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France and met with continued success in the years following, combining elements of house with synthpop. The duo is credited with producing songs that are considered essential in the French house scene. The group was managed from 1996 to 2008 by Pedro Winter (Busy P), the head of Ed Banger Records. Early in the group's career, the band members were influenced by groups including The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones.
So I have started on my painting of daft punk onto my canvas. Then painting it with a creamy colour for the details of the image then painting the outlines with black. It was not easy painting on a big canvas it was my first time. But I'm really happy how it turned out on the first image.

My second image of daft punk

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe
 Screen-print on white paper,

Edition of 250, signed in pencil and numbered with rubber stamp on verso;
Printer: Aetna Silkscreen Products, Inc./Du-Art Displays, New York Publisher: Factory Additions, New York.Andy Warhol (1928 -1987) was a leading artist in the visual art movement known as Pop art, a movement that emerged in America and elsewhere in the 1950s to become prominent over the next two decades. His works explored the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. My first forgery was Andy Warhol of Marilyn Monroe. I started of planing drawing what I'm going to paint on the the canvas. It wasn't that easy painting if only i didn't rush to get done i had a lot mistakes from trying to rush it to finish the painting. But I'm happy how it turned out and proud of myself getting the painting done.

Roy Lichtenstein

One of the most notable pop artists was the artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987). One of Andy Warhol's most famous paintings was that of a Campbell's soup can. How much closer can you get to pop culture of the 60's than a can of soup? Well, perhaps the answer is Marilyn Monroe. Warhol is noted for creating artistic portraits of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol is noted to have mingled with many different subculture circles and must have had some influence on how and why he created the art that was famous for. I bet you didn't know his birth name was Andrew Warhola. Or perhaps you did?
Another notable pop artist was Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997). Lichtenstein loved doing abstract expressionism but later was drawn to pop art in the 60's. He created art using comic strips as the subject. He also was known for creating pop art style reproductions of master painters like Monet. Personally, I always like to see someone play with a master's artwork. What better exercise could an artist receive?
This is my second forgery i have worked on one of Roy Lichtenstein work i have struggle painting this forgery it wasn't easy at all getting the dot's perfect.

New Zealand Painting

Charles Frederick Goldie

Artist: Charles (C.F.) Goldie
Title: All ‘e Same t’e Pakeha
Portrait of Te Aho-te-Rangi Wharepu, Ngati Mahuta also known as “A Good Joke”.

Charles Goldie is known for his portraits of New Zealand Maori chiefs (ariki) and women of rank (kuia). His paintings chronicled the traditional tattoos of these Maori men and women.
Charles Goldie was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 20 October 1870. The second of eight children born to David Goldie and his wife, Maria Partington.
However, many Mäori see Goldie's works as taonga representing irreplaceable ancestral images of koroua and kuia which, for Mäori, have special significance.
Charles Goldie painting is so captivating and elegance. This will be favourite one of Goldie's painting seeing Te Aho-teRangi Wharepu , Ngati Mahuta smiling in this painting is pleasing.

John Reynolds, Cloud, detail

John Reynolds work is really interesting little canvas with all the slangs words hanging on the wall. I really like it's just look's enticing. Walking with letter's there's just so many slang's or poetry to read from but really interresting to see and something different and not using any colour's.

Dick Frizzell, MNZM is a New Zealand artist based in Hawke's Bay. Frizzell's work is best described as expressionist pop in its appropriation of kitsch kiwiana icons and incorporation of them into his often cartoon-like paintings and lithographs

AFTER: After mean's painting or drawing copying the same idea's by the same artist or a painting is painted after an artist.

 After Painting

I have made up my mind and work on Dick Frizzell painting because it just looks really simple and interesting to paint. It took me a while to think what to paint and finding ideas from one of my artwork's so I came up with butterfly's so I change the Mickey mouse to a flower and a butterfly. And change the colour's and mixing it up with brighter colours.
